Wike challenges Evo Kingdom to identify Amaechi's legacy projects in 24 years
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike questions former Governor Amaechi's contributions during his long political career.

In a bold statement during an interactive session with leaders of Evo Kingdom in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike challenged the community to point out any significant project or development that former Governor Rotimi Amaechi accomplished over his 24 years in various political roles. Wike's remarks were made as he contrasted his own achievements with what he described as a lack of progress under Amaechi's leadership.
Wike, who has held multiple top government positions, including Minister of State for Education, expressed his frustration over what he termed self-serving politics during Amaechi's tenure as Speaker, Governor, and Minister. "Someone was Speaker of the House of Assembly for eight years, Governor for eight years, and Minister for eight years β that is 24 years in top leadership positions! What can anybody point to that he attracted to Evo Kingdom or Rivers State in all those 24 years? Nothing! Not one single thing!" Wike stated emphatically, highlighting the absence of tangible benefits for the community.
During the session, Wike emphasized his own record, stating that he could easily enumerate the projects he brought to Rivers State during his time in office. He argued that effective leadership should be measured by the empowerment of the people and the development of new leaders, rather than clinging to power. "I cannot be a governor again. I've been a minister two times. I cannot be chairman of council again. So I am happy. I don't have anything to lose," he said, indicating his contentment with his political journey.
Wike also discussed the importance of nurturing future leaders, criticizing those who monopolize power and hinder others from rising. He mentioned his efforts to restructure the chieftaincy institution to enhance representation for Evo Kingdom in the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers.
At the conclusion of the event, traditional and political leaders from the community, including Eze Temple Ejekwu and Elder Peter Chinwo, expressed their support for President Bola Tinubu and candidates endorsed by the Rainbow Coalition.
In a related development, the Rivers State chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dr. Chukwudi Dimkpa, responded to Wike's comments, accusing him of political rascality and warning the people of Rivers against intimidation ahead of the 2027 elections. Dimkpa urged voters to prioritize credible leadership in the upcoming elections, especially in light of Wike's recent claims regarding Amaechi's political future.
Wike's remarks have reignited discussions about the legacy of past leaders in Rivers State and the expectations of constituents as the political landscape continues to evolve ahead of the next election cycle.
