The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 24-year-old man, Nweke Wisdom, for allegedly vandalizing a telecommunication mast in Anambra State. This incident occurred at Esther Obiakor Estate in Agu-Awka, where the suspect was apprehended on Thursday following a distress call regarding suspicious activities at the site.

Edwin Okadigbo, the Head of Media and Tactical Operations for NSCDC in Anambra, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Friday. According to Okadigbo, the suspect, who hails from Izzi South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was found in possession of equipment believed to have been stolen from the mast installation, including DC Cable and Armored Cable.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Wisdom has a history of targeting telecommunication masts for vandalism and theft. The NSCDC has stated that he made significant confessions during questioning and is expected to be charged in court once the investigation is complete.

The NSCDC has reiterated its commitment to safeguarding critical national infrastructure and has issued a warning to potential vandals about the legal consequences of such actions. The agency emphasized the importance of public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities to enhance security and protect vital assets across the state.

Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any unusual occurrences to help combat the rising trend of vandalism against telecommunication facilities, which can disrupt services and affect communication in the area.
