Ranchers Bees fined ₦5 million for multiple rule violations in NPFL match
The Nigeria Premier Football League imposes hefty fines on Ranchers Bees following misconduct during a recent match.

Ranchers Bees have been penalized with a total fine of ₦5 million by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) due to several infractions during their Matchday 6 clash against Rivers United. The decision, which was announced on October 1, follows a thorough review of the match incidents that raised serious concerns about the club's adherence to league regulations.
The NPFL's Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Ayo Abdulrahman, signed the Summary Jurisdiction decisions on September 29, detailing the specific breaches committed by Ranchers Bees. The club was found guilty of violating multiple rules, including inadequate security measures, player misconduct, and failure to control supporters.
A significant portion of the fine, ₦2 million, was imposed for failing to provide adequate security at the stadium, which allowed unauthorized individuals to access restricted areas, in violation of Rule B13.52. This breach not only jeopardized the safety of players and officials but also undermined the integrity of the match environment.
In addition, Ranchers Bees were fined ₦1 million for the behavior of their players and bench officials, who were reported to have intimidated and harassed match officials during the game, contravening Rule C1.1. Such actions are deemed detrimental to the reputation of the sport and prompted further scrutiny from the league.
Another ₦1 million fine was levied against the club for the actions of its supporters, who allegedly attempted to attack match officials, violating Rule C9. This incident reflects a broader issue of crowd control and the responsibilities clubs have towards maintaining decorum among their fans.
Lastly, the NPFL imposed an additional ₦1 million fine for the club's failure to ensure that match officials were not held hostage following the game. This serious breach of protocol raises questions about the club's commitment to upholding the standards expected within the league.
As part of the sanctions, Ranchers Bees have been instructed to identify the player involved in physically assaulting a Rivers United player during the match. The club is required to disclose this player's identity by October 1 for further disciplinary measures.
Ranchers Bees now face a crucial decision regarding the imposed sanctions. They have 48 hours from the notice date to either accept the penalties or opt to have the matter referred to a Disciplinary Panel. The fines must be settled within seven working days after the appeal period expires, marking a significant moment for the club as they navigate the consequences of their actions in the league.
