The Akwa Ibom State Judiciary has announced a remarkable revenue generation of N437,451,035.35 for the 2025/2026 legal year, surpassing its budgetary estimate of N97.5 million. Chief Judge Justice Ekaete Fabian Obot made this announcement during the opening of the 2026/2027 Legal Year in Uyo on Tuesday, highlighting that the revenue returns exceeded 90 percent across all courts in the state.

Justice Obot also revealed that the State Judicial Service Commission has developed its Regulations and Scheme of Service, aligning with the directives from the Federal Judicial Service Commission, which is led by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun. This document was crafted by a committee established by the Chief Judge and is currently awaiting the endorsement of Governor Umo Eno.

In her address, Justice Obot noted that the inauguration of the Judicial Service Commission Board is imminent, pending the governor's approval of the nominated members who are set to be sworn in soon. She stressed the urgent need for a dedicated Secretariat for the Judicial Service Commission, which has been operating from a dilapidated rented facility for the past 39 years.

The Chief Judge expressed her gratitude to Governor Umo Eno for providing funds for various training programs and projects undertaken by the Judiciary throughout the legal year. She also acknowledged the support received from the elders of the Bar, as well as the Chairmen and members of the various branches of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Regarding funding, Justice Obot disclosed that N250 million was released in September 2025 for capital projects of that year, with another N250 million allocated in April 2026 for the ongoing capital projects. However, she mentioned that the Judiciary has not yet received funds to settle liabilities for the second, third, and fourth quarters of 2026.

Additionally, Justice Obot highlighted that the Judiciary had successfully obtained funds for various allowances, including robe allowances for judges and the Chief Registrar, as well as Easter packages for Judicial Officers. Notably, funds have also been allocated for the installation of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Recording System in all High Courts across Akwa Ibom State.

In conclusion, Justice Obot urged the Bar to maintain its partnership with the Bench to ensure the swift administration of justice in the state, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in enhancing the judicial process.
