The Cross River State Police Command has taken a significant step in addressing child safety concerns by arresting a 22-year-old security guard, Bright Bassey Elijah, over allegations of sexually assaulting a five-year-old pupil at a nursery and primary school in Calabar.

The incident came to light on September 28, 2026, when the proprietress of the school reported the matter to the police. According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the suspect was allegedly caught escorting the child to an uncompleted building near the school premises, where the assault reportedly took place.
