The Judicial Commission of Inquiry established by the Oyo State Government is scheduled to present its findings today regarding the abduction of students and teachers from Esinele and Yawota communities in Oriire Local Government Area. This significant event will take place at the Executive Council Chamber of the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, with the report being formally received by Governor Seyi Makinde.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, announced that the presentation will commence at 12 noon and will be attended by various stakeholders, including top government officials, security chiefs, religious leaders, and representatives from the affected communities and schools. Notable attendees will include the Principal of Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, Mrs. Racheal Alamu, the Headmaster of Baptist Basic School, Yawota, Mr. Adejumo Gabriel, and the Headteacher of Local Authority Basic School, Ahoro-Esinele, Mr. Oke Jacob Sunday.

The commission was inaugurated on July 31, 2026, following a harrowing incident on May 15, 2026, when armed bandits attacked three schools in the area: Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School. This attack resulted in the abduction of 39 pupils and seven teachers, including Mrs. Alamu. The victims endured a traumatic 56 days in captivity within the Old Oyo National Park before their release on July 10, 2026. Tragically, two teachers, Michael Oyedokun and Adesiyan Adegboye, lost their lives during this distressing episode.

The commission's findings are anticipated to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the abduction and the subsequent rescue operation, providing crucial insights into the security challenges faced by educational institutions in the region. The outcome of this inquiry is expected to inform future policies aimed at enhancing the safety of students and teachers across Oyo State.
