XEJET Airlines has been forced to suspend its flight operations across Nigeria following the withdrawal of services by ground handling companies over an outstanding debt of approximately N300 million. The Aviation Ground Handlers Association of Nigeria (AGHAN) announced the suspension on September 28, 2026, citing XEJET's failure to meet its repayment commitments, which has disrupted the airline's operations significantly.

The decision to halt services came after AGHAN directed its members to cease providing essential support to XEJET. This includes critical services such as baggage handling, aircraft loading and unloading, and passenger assistance, all of which are vital for the smooth operation of flights. The association's president, Olaniyi Adigun, and vice president, Bashir Ahmed, stated that other airlines with similar debts had begun to address their financial obligations by submitting repayment plans, while XEJET did not comply with its agreements.

Sources indicate that the suspension of services has already impacted passengers, with reports of checked luggage being transferred to other domestic carriers due to the lack of ground handling support. AGHAN's statement emphasized that the airline's outstanding debt had reached a point where the association had no choice but to implement the suspension fully.

AGHAN had previously issued a seven-day ultimatum to all domestic airlines with debts owed to ground handling companies, demanding that they pay at least 75% of their outstanding amounts or risk service withdrawal. While some airlines responded by settling their debts, XEJET's failure to comply has led to its current predicament.

The association expressed understanding of the challenging operating environment faced by Nigerian airlines but insisted that ground handling companies are also struggling with rising costs related to equipment, manpower, and employee welfare. They warned that if XEJET does not settle its debts or reach an acceptable repayment agreement, the suspension will remain in effect.

As of now, XEJET Airlines has not publicly responded to the allegations or the suspension of services. Attempts to reach the airline's spokesperson, Juliet Atikpekpe, for comments have gone unanswered. The situation continues to evolve, and the impact on XEJET's operations and its passengers remains to be seen.
