Dr. Kadri Hamzat, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Lagos State governorship in 2027, has expressed confidence in his ability to lead the state, citing his extensive knowledge of its history and politics as a crucial asset. Speaking at the 70th Harvest Anniversary and Thanksgiving Service of the Cherubim and Seraphim Society in Ese-Ofin, Lagos, Hamzat stated that effective governance requires a deep understanding of the state's political landscape.

Hamzat, who currently serves as the Deputy Governor of Lagos, highlighted his familiarity with past leaders and the intricacies of governance in the state. "I know the people that have ruled this state before and if I have any problems on land issues, I know where to go. Though nobody is perfect, I understand Lagos thoroughly," he remarked.

In his address, Hamzat urged the electorate to be cautious of politicians who make grand promises during election campaigns. He emphasized the importance of honesty in governance, stating, "We in APC will not lie because we know the situation of things in the state." He underscored Lagos's significance, noting that the state contributes over 33 percent to Nigeria's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and therefore, it should not be entrusted to inexperienced leaders.

Reflecting on his political journey, Hamzat recounted how he was invited back to Nigeria by former Governor Bola Tinubu while he was working in New York in 2005. Since then, he has held various positions, including Commissioner for Science and Technology and Commissioner for Works, before becoming Deputy Governor. He believes that his accumulated experience has equipped him to lead effectively.

In addition to his political aspirations, Hamzat called for continued prayers for Nigeria, expressing his belief that the country has a divine purpose. His remarks resonated with attendees, including Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the wife of the current Lagos State Governor, who also attended the anniversary celebration. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate the milestone with church members after a long absence.

The anniversary event featured various activities, including a medical outreach aimed at providing health services to the community. Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, noted the importance of giving back to society and encouraged attendees to strengthen their faith in God. Traditional rulers, APC chieftains, and local government officials were also present, highlighting the community's support for Hamzat's candidacy and the APC's initiatives in Lagos State.
