The Ogun State Police Command has made significant strides in combating crime, arresting 11 suspects and recovering 25 Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards, three firearms, and two suspected stolen vehicles during an extensive 11-day security operation across the state.

The operation, which took place between September 16 and 26, 2026, involved personnel from various police divisions and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit. Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, revealed that the arrests were part of a concerted effort to tackle rising crime rates in the region.

One of the key arrests was that of Ameachine Anthony, a 45-year-old man apprehended in Igbesa. He is alleged to be involved in a fraudulent scheme that reportedly defrauded victims of N2.5 million. Investigations indicated that Anthony used utility bills and newly acquired SIM cards to open bank accounts, from which the ATM cards were later used for fraudulent transactions. A number of mobile phones were also seized from him, and he has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta for further questioning.

In a separate operation, SWAT Base 7 in Abule-Iroko intercepted an unregistered tricycle and a TVS motorcycle on September 21, leading to the arrest of three suspects: Olamide Ayandele, 30; Tope Samuel, 40; and Ayo Peter Ojo, 30. Preliminary investigations have linked these individuals to vehicle thefts in the Ijoko area.

Additionally, police operatives arrested Peter Olanrewaju, 34, a suspected cult member, on September 22, following a tip-off about a cult gathering. This led to the arrest of another suspect, Adebayo Sodiq, 36, with the recovery of one pump-action rifle and two locally made pistols. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the firearms and identify any additional suspects.

On September 17, detectives from the Owode Egba Division recovered a stolen commercial TVS motorcycle in Mokoloki Village, arresting two suspects, Rasheed Abdul and Saula Meshinoye, while another accomplice remains at large. In the Olorunda area, two more suspects, Mutiu Gafar, 19, and Fatai Obasanmi, 37, were arrested after being caught with stolen electrical materials.

The police also recovered a Safira vehicle allegedly taken from its owner, with suspect Olatunji Olalekan arrested in connection with this incident. This recovery was made possible through thorough investigation and intelligence gathering by detectives from the Ijebu-Ode Area Crime Office.

In a related enforcement operation on September 26, police personnel from the Sagamu Area Command impounded eight vehicles for obstructing traffic around the Sagamu Interchange Bridge, as part of efforts to improve road safety and facilitate free traffic flow. These vehicles are set to be processed for prosecution.

Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the officers for their diligence and professionalism, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. He emphasized the importance of community cooperation in enhancing security across the state, encouraging the public to utilize the Gateway Shield toll-free line and emergency numbers for assistance.
