The Department of Operations at the Force Headquarters issued a security alert that has been disseminated to police formations, zonal and state commands, as well as specialized units including the Police Counter-Terrorism Units and the Bomb Disposal Unit. The alert highlights an "increased mobilisation of terrorist elements for possible coordinated attacks" on vulnerable locations, coinciding with the upcoming resumption of schools for the 2026/2027 academic session.

Sources indicate that the intelligence has also been shared with sister security agencies, emphasizing a collaborative approach to counter the potential threat. Reports suggest that armed groups have been moving from Katsina through Kaduna to Plateau State, with operatives from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) reportedly conducting reconnaissance on potential targets.

In light of these developments, police commands have been directed to bolster security around schools, places of worship, and NYSC camps. Officers are urged to maintain heightened vigilance, promptly reporting any suspicious individuals, vehicles, or activities through established communication channels. The directive includes implementing intelligence-led surveillance, regular patrols, stop-and-search operations, and rapid-response protocols in identified vulnerable areas.

Additionally, Commissioners of Police have been instructed to enhance security at state borders and critical access points to prevent the infiltration of armed groups. Military authorities have confirmed their awareness of the situation and are closely monitoring developments. Troops have been placed on alert for potential deployment should the need arise.
