The Anambra State Police Command successfully rescued a 16-year-old boy, Favour Ayogu, who was allegedly kidnapped in Enugu State. The operation took place at Ekene Junction along Oguta Road in Onitsha, a major commercial center in the state.

Favour was reportedly abducted in Igboeze South Local Government Area of Enugu State by a criminal gang. However, the kidnappers abandoned him when they encountered a police checkpoint in Onitsha as they attempted to flee. The police had been conducting strategic joint security operations, which intensified on the evening of September 13, 2026.

According to Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, the swift response of a joint patrol team led to the boy’s rescue after he was dropped from a black Toyota Highlander SUV by the suspects. The police had been monitoring the area and suspected suspicious movements, prompting their intervention.

In a statement, Ikenga emphasized that the police are now focused on apprehending the suspects involved in the kidnapping. The command has increased surveillance and is seeking assistance from the public to help reunite Favour with his family in Enugu State.

The statement read, "The Anambra State Police Command has intensified efforts to apprehend a suspected criminal gang following the rescue of a 16-year-old boy, Favour Ayogu, who was allegedly abducted in Igboeze South Local Government Area of Enugu State and later abandoned near a security checkpoint in Onitsha."

The Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, Nnanna Ama, praised the joint patrol team for their vigilance and professionalism during the operation. He urged police personnel to continue their intelligence-led patrols and maintain strategic checkpoints across the state to ensure safety for residents and visitors alike.

The police command reassured the public of their commitment to protecting lives and property, emphasizing their readiness to respond swiftly to distress calls and ensure that criminal activities are effectively curtailed in Anambra State.
