The Ogun State Executive Council has unveiled a comprehensive package of infrastructure and economic development initiatives aimed at bolstering the state's growth. This announcement, made over the weekend, includes the reconstruction of key roads, the establishment of new healthcare facilities, and the creation of an agency dedicated to supporting micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, detailed the approved projects in a statement on Sunday. Among the notable infrastructure improvements is the 4.87-kilometre Siun Junction–Iperu Junction Road, which will connect the Obafemi Owode and Ikenne Local Government Areas. Additionally, the council has sanctioned the reconstruction of the Simawa–Lukosi/Ogijo Road in Sagamu Local Government Area.

Further enhancements include variations for the reconstruction of the Sango–Ota–Ijoko–Agbado–Oke-Aro–Akute Road (Phase I) in Ifo Local Government Area, as well as the extensive 69.2-kilometre Abeokuta–Abule Egba Road. These projects are expected to significantly improve connectivity across the state, facilitating the movement of people and goods while creating new economic opportunities.

In the healthcare sector, the council has approved the construction of two new general hospitals located in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area, and Aiyepe, Odogbolu Local Government Area. Akinmade emphasized that these facilities will enhance the state’s healthcare infrastructure, making medical services more accessible, especially in areas where the demand for healthcare is rising.

In a bid to foster enterprise development, the establishment of the Ogun State Enterprise Development Agency has also been approved. This agency is tasked with coordinating efforts to support MSMEs, promoting entrepreneurship, and facilitating access to business opportunities. The aim is to strengthen the capacity of small and medium-sized businesses, enabling them to expand, create jobs, and contribute more significantly to the state's economy.

Additionally, the council has taken steps to improve power supply in the state by endorsing Ogun State’s participation in power generation through Gateway Power Limited. This initiative is part of the administration's strategy to ensure a reliable electricity supply for the growing industrial and commercial sectors in Ogun, which Akinmade noted is crucial for enhancing productivity and attracting investment.

In a related development, the council appointed Otunba Osunsina Olumide John as the new Olu of Ifo in Ifo Local Government Area, marking a significant leadership change in the region.

These initiatives reflect the Ogun State government's commitment to infrastructure development, healthcare improvement, and economic empowerment, aiming to create a more conducive environment for growth and development across the state.
