The Katsina State Police Command has made notable strides in combatting crime, reporting the arrest of 247 suspects and the rescue of 17 kidnapped victims throughout August 2026. This announcement was made during a press conference held at the Command Headquarters in Katsina, where the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, detailed the Command's operational achievements for the month.

The Command's efforts included the recovery of various items, such as an AK-47 rifle, 145 suspected rustled livestock, six motorcycles, a motor vehicle, and 1,500 pieces of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food, commonly referred to as “Yar Kwamaso.” These operations were part of a broader strategy to address issues like kidnapping, banditry, cattle rustling, and arms trafficking, which have plagued the region.

DSP Sadiq, speaking on behalf of Commissioner of Police Ali Umar Fage, highlighted the importance of intelligence-led operations and inter-agency collaboration in their approach to law enforcement. He stated, “Within the period under review, the Command intensified its fight against all forms of crime and criminality, especially kidnapping, banditry, cattle rustling, and arms trafficking through intelligence-led operations, inter-agency collaboration, and sustained patrols across identified hotspots.”

The breakdown of the arrests revealed that among the 247 suspects, there were three suspected kidnappers, 15 armed robbers, four informants for armed bandits, and 31 drug peddlers. Additionally, 20 suspects were apprehended for rape and sodomy, while 160 others were arrested for various other criminal offenses. The Command reported that 122 major criminal cases were addressed in August, with 89 cases already charged to court following preliminary investigations.

The rescued victims have undergone medical examinations and have been reunited with their families, according to the PPRO. The Command also recovered a range of other items, including a sewing machine, recharge cards, and various drugs, which will be presented as evidence in court.

DSP Sadiq emphasized the role of community policing in fostering trust between security agencies and the public, which is crucial for effective intelligence sharing. He noted that the Command's collaboration with other security agencies has significantly improved their operational effectiveness and response times.

Despite these successes, the PPRO acknowledged that challenges remain in addressing insecurity in Katsina State. He expressed gratitude to the Katsina State Government and the Inspector-General of Police for their support and urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities through the police's dedicated hotlines. He warned that the police would continue to take necessary actions to ensure the safety of lives and property in the state.
