The Ebonyi State Police Command has apprehended a man identified as Ajah Ikechukwu from Ngwogwo Community in Ishiagu, Ivo Local Government Area, for allegedly orchestrating his own kidnapping. The incident came to light during a press briefing held by the State Commissioner of Police, CP Hope Okafor, on Thursday.

According to CP Okafor, Ikechukwu's actions were driven by a desire to extort a staggering N25 million from his family. The police chief detailed that the suspect had devised a plan to create a false narrative of being kidnapped, which he then used to demand the ransom from his relatives.

The police investigation revealed that Ikechukwu's scheme involved fabricating evidence of his abduction, leading his family to believe he was in grave danger. This alarming case has raised concerns about the lengths to which individuals may go to exploit their families for financial gain.

CP Okafor emphasized the importance of vigilance among community members to prevent such deceitful acts. He urged families to be cautious and to report any suspicious activities that could indicate a potential crime.

The arrest of Ikechukwu serves as a reminder of the ongoing issues surrounding kidnapping and extortion in Nigeria, where such crimes have become increasingly prevalent. Authorities continue to work diligently to combat these threats and ensure the safety of citizens.

As the investigation unfolds, the police are expected to gather more information regarding Ikechukwu's motives and any potential accomplices involved in this scheme. The case highlights the need for greater awareness and preventive measures against fraudulent activities that prey on the emotions and vulnerabilities of families.
