A significant security concern has emerged in France as an 18-year-old, identified as Clement L, was arrested for allegedly plotting to kidnap national football team captain Kylian Mbappe. The arrest follows Mbappe's participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he gained international attention for his performance.

Reports from Le Parisien indicate that Clement L was involved in a series of criminal activities, including kidnapping plots, between April 11 and August 19. These incidents reportedly took place in various locations, including Neuilly-sur-Seine, Saint-Brice-sous-Forêt, and Santenay. While Mbappe was a primary target, the suspect's gang allegedly had a broader agenda, identifying a total of 26 individuals for potential home invasions and kidnappings. This list included not only footballers but also businesspeople and prominent rappers.

Clement L, who is currently incarcerated at Villepinte prison in the Seine-Saint-Denis department, faces multiple charges, including pimping and armed robbery. Authorities have revealed that he utilized Snapchat to coordinate his criminal network, even while behind bars. A significant discovery was made when law enforcement seized mobile phones from his prison cell, which contained a list of potential targets for his gang's criminal activities.

Following his arrest, Clement L, who is also known by the alias Lester Z, has been placed in solitary confinement as a precautionary measure. He was charged on August 21 in Nanterre and has been in pretrial detention since then.
