A coalition of students in Ogun State has made a strong appeal to the upcoming administration to maintain and enhance investments in education, bursaries, and infrastructure. This call comes as the group, known as the Yayi-Kudirat Students Campaign Organization (YAKSCO), emphasizes the importance of preserving the progress achieved under the current Governor, Dapo Abiodun, as the state approaches the 2027 elections.

During a press conference held in Abeokuta, the state capital, the convener of YAKSCO, Oladimeji Uthman, highlighted that education is a crucial tool for reducing inequality and must be prioritized by the next government. He stated that the investments made in educational facilities, scholarships, and infrastructure have significantly improved the quality of life for residents.

Uthman asserted, "Investments in educational facilities, scholarships, roads and community projects have direct implications for the quality of life of citizens. We believe the next government must consolidate what is working across the three senatorial districts while addressing emerging needs and expanding opportunities for young people."

The student coalition expressed its support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as YAYI, and his running mate, Mrs. Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun. They argue that the state needs leadership capable of sustaining development, attracting investment, and expanding opportunities for youth.

According to Uthman, the decision to back YAYI and Adegunwa-Balogun was influenced by consultations with various campus stakeholders and the candidates' proven track record in governance. He remarked, "We believe Senator Yayi has the legislative experience, political exposure and understanding of governance necessary to consolidate the achievements of the present administration and position Ogun State for even greater industrial development."

As part of their preparations for the 2027 elections, YAKSCO has initiated engagements with students across different campuses in Ogun State. These activities include voter registration awareness, voter education, and sensitization tours to encourage student participation in the democratic process. Uthman emphasized the importance of political engagement that is peaceful and issue-based, urging members to respect diverse political opinions.

The coalition's commitment to fostering responsible participation among students is evident as they work to mobilize eligible voters and ensure that their voices are heard in the upcoming elections. With a focus on educational and infrastructural development, the students are determined to influence the political landscape in Ogun State positively.
