The Plateau State chapter of the Jama'atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has officially refuted claims that any Muslim organization is in the process of establishing a Hisbah group in the Jos North Local Government Area. This clarification comes in response to recent statements made by the state government, which suggested that Hisbah activities had already commenced in the region, causing concern among local residents.

Dr. Salim Musa Umar, the Secretary of JNI Plateau, spoke to Daily Trust, emphasizing that no Islamic organization within the state has made any announcements regarding the formation of a Hisbah group. He attributed the confusion to misleading information circulating on social media, where individuals reportedly used AI-generated images to create the false impression that a Hisbah organization was already operational in Jos North.

Umar stated, "No Islamic organization in Plateau has come out to say it wants to establish Hisbah. There is nothing like that. It has never been discussed and it is not part of what is being considered." He further explained that the establishment of a Hisbah group would require enabling legislation from the Plateau State House of Assembly, which has not been enacted.

"Hisbah cannot be established without a law from the State House of Assembly, and the government has not done that. Therefore, people cannot simply come out and claim that they have established Hisbah," Umar added.

The JNI Secretary urged the Plateau State Government to exercise caution and conduct thorough investigations into sensitive religious matters before making public statements that could potentially escalate tensions between communities. He also called on social media users to refrain from creating and disseminating misleading content that could disrupt the peaceful coexistence of different groups within the state.
