NYSC praises security forces after rescue of abducted corps members in Kogi
Sixteen corps members abducted in Kogi State have been rescued, prompting a commendation from NYSC.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has expressed its gratitude towards various security agencies following the successful rescue of sixteen corps members who were kidnapped in Kogi State on August 26, 2026. The corps members were en route from their NYSC camp in Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing their Orientation Course when the incident occurred.
In a statement released by Caroline Embu, the Director of Information and Public Relations at NYSC, the organization commended the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and Kogi State Vigilante groups for their collaborative efforts in the search and rescue operations. The NYSC highlighted the professionalism and courage demonstrated by these agencies during the crisis.
The statement noted, "The security agencies were indeed animated by His Excellency’s concern and commitment to urgently and successfully rescuing the Corps members," referring to President Bola Tinubu's involvement and support in ensuring the safety of the abducted individuals.
NYSC also acknowledged the patience of the families of the affected corps members during the ordeal, as well as the media's responsible coverage of the situation, which prioritized the safety of the youths while they were in captivity.
"Management is relieved that all affected Corps members have been safely recovered and are in high spirits, eager to resume at their places of primary assignment. Their resolute spirit is humbling and instructive, and NYSC remains committed to supporting them as they recover from this traumatic experience," the statement added.
Furthermore, NYSC reiterated its commitment to the safety and welfare of all corps members, promising to continue collaborating with government and security agencies to enhance protective measures. The organization emphasized that lessons have been learned from this incident and that protocols will be reviewed to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The successful recovery of the corps members comes as a relief amidst ongoing concerns regarding security in various regions of Nigeria, particularly for those serving in the NYSC program. The NYSC's commitment to ensuring the safety of its members remains a priority as they navigate the challenges posed by insecurity in the country.
