Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder of Living Faith Church, delivered a powerful message against domestic violence during the Annual Youth Convention at Faith Tabernacle in Canaanland, Ota, Ogun State. Speaking to a gathered audience, he emphasized the importance of treating spouses with respect and dignity, particularly addressing men who resort to violence in their marriages.

In a sermon that combined humor with serious admonitions, Oyedepo declared that any man who physically abuses his wife should consider registering with the sports council instead of engaging in violence at home. His remarks drew laughter from the audience, but the underlying message was one of grave concern for the issue of domestic abuse.

You are beating your wife, a man, a man, beating his wife. If you can fight, go and register in sports council," he stated, highlighting the absurdity of a man raising his hand against his partner. He further elaborated that such actions are not only destructive to the relationship but also reflect a deeper insanity, as he noted, "You and your wife are one flesh. It's insanity.

Bishop Oyedepo also shared insights from his own 44-year marriage, using it as a testament to the power of love and respect in a relationship. He recounted a conversation with his wife, who affirmed that he has never raised a hand against her. This commitment to non-violence, he suggested, has been a cornerstone of their enduring union.

In a memorable part of his address, he offered a lesson on the significance of the names couples use for each other during conflicts. He explained that the names we call our spouses reflect on ourselves, saying, "Whatever name you call your wife, that's your name. You said you are a fool, that means Mr Fool is talking to Mrs Fool."

The bishop's remarks resonated deeply with attendees, as he urged couples to foster an environment of love and understanding rather than resorting to verbal or physical abuse. His message serves as a reminder of the critical need for respect and kindness in marital relationships, especially in a society where domestic violence remains a troubling issue.

As Oyedepo concluded his address, he reiterated the importance of building strong, healthy marriages based on mutual respect, love, and understanding, encouraging all men to reflect on their actions and commit to positive change in their relationships.
