The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has made a strong appeal to both the Minister of Works, David Umahi, and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, urging them to take immediate action to repair the Ihiagwa-Naze-Obinze road. The council's National President, Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, expressed that the road's current state poses significant hardships and security risks, particularly for students attending the Federal University of Technology Owerri and the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede.

In a statement released on Monday, Igboayaka emphasized that while the Ihiagwa-FUTO road is classified as a state road, it serves as a crucial link connecting two major federal institutions in the Owerri area. He stated, "Although it is a state road, it connects two major federal institutions, Federal University of Technology (FUTO) and Federal Polytechnic Nekede. The Federal Ministry of Works under David Nweze Umahi should intervene, prove capacity to end the suffering of students."

The road has reportedly suffered years of neglect, leading to severe deterioration that has resulted in vehicle damage, prolonged travel times, and significant hardship for students, faculty, and local residents. Igboayaka voiced particular concern about the rising insecurity in the area, noting that the poor condition of the road has made it a hotspot for criminal activities such as kidnapping, car theft, and motorcycle snatching.

In light of these issues, the OYC has called for a collaborative effort between the federal and state governments to address the road's condition. Igboayaka recommended specific measures, including the expansion of drainage systems towards the Ihiagwa market axis and the construction of new bridges to facilitate better access and safety.

The call for urgent repairs reflects a growing frustration among local residents and students who rely on this vital route for their daily commutes. As the situation continues to deteriorate, stakeholders are hopeful that the authorities will respond swiftly to restore safety and accessibility on the Ihiagwa-Naze-Obinze road.
