Doris Ojuederie has approached the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja, requesting an order to prevent the Nigeria Police Force from arresting or harassing her. This legal action stems from a dispute related to her impending marriage to Ifeanyi Ezenwaogene.

In her fundamental rights enforcement suit, Ojuederie has named several respondents, including the Inspector-General of Police, the Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command, the Police Service Commission, and specific officers from the National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC). Additionally, she has implicated Mrs. Fibiawari Jonathan, whom she accuses of instigating the police's actions against her.

The motion, filed through her counsel Terkaa Aondo, SAN, seeks interim orders to restrain the police from arresting, detaining, or intimidating her and Ezenwaogene, pending the outcome of the main suit. Ojuederie claims that her troubles began on August 6, 2026, when officers from the NPF-NCCC allegedly came to her home in Jabi, Abuja, arrested her, and seized her phones for forensic examination. She asserts that during this encounter, she was pressured to make a statement without her lawyer present and was coerced into apologizing to Fibiawari.

After her release on bail, facilitated by her legal representative, Ojuederie alleges that the police have continued to harass her with persistent calls, threatening further arrest and the confiscation of her international passport. She expressed that these ongoing threats have instilled a constant fear of re-arrest, significantly impacting her freedom of movement.

The conflict reportedly began when Fibiawari, whom Ojuederie introduced to Ezenwaogene, allegedly developed romantic feelings for him. Ojuederie claims to have informed Fibiawari’s husband about the situation after suspecting an affair between the two.

In her affidavit, Ojuederie recounts an incident on July 10, 2026, when armed police officers, allegedly accompanied by Fibiawari, attempted to arrest her at her residence. Both Ojuederie and Ezenwaogene contend that the matter is fundamentally civil and matrimonial, arguing that it does not warrant the police's coercive actions.

Ojuederie's legal team has argued that the police's conduct violates her constitutional rights, specifically citing sections 34, 35, 41, and 46 of the 1999 Constitution. They emphasized the need for an interim injunction to maintain the status quo and prevent any further infringement on her rights while the case is pending.

The applicants clarified that their request for an interim order would not hinder the police from investigating any legitimate criminal activities supported by credible evidence, provided that such actions adhere to due process. They have urged the court to grant the requested orders in the interest of justice.
