In a significant call for unity, the G100 has urged all opposition parties in Nigeria to come together for a summit scheduled for August 31, 2026, at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja. With just a day to the event, the group emphasized the importance of cooperation among political parties, stating that they are "stronger together than apart."

The statement, signed by G100 convener Salihu Moh. Lukman, highlighted the summit's timing as critical for Nigeria's democracy. Lukman noted that millions of Nigerians are looking to the opposition not only to critique the current government but also to present a credible alternative that reflects maturity and national purpose.

Lukman articulated that cooperation among political parties does not necessitate the abandonment of their individual identities or ambitions. Instead, he called for a recognition of national interests that transcend partisan differences. "The G100 recognizes that every political party has its own history, identity, ambitions and legitimate interests. Cooperation does not require any party to surrender these," he stated.

The group cautioned that a fragmented opposition could inadvertently strengthen the ruling party. Drawing from past electoral experiences, the G100 asserted that divided opposition efforts often lead to a consolidation of power for incumbents, as resources and votes become scattered among competing parties.

"Division is a choice. Cooperation must now become a strategy," the G100 declared, urging opposition leaders to engage in constructive dialogue and coordination while respecting the unique structures of each party involved.

Lukman acknowledged that disagreements are a natural part of political discourse but stressed that such differences should not hinder the opposition from providing a viable alternative to Nigerians. He emphasized that the summit is not about determining winners or losers within the opposition, but rather about fostering an environment where Nigerian democracy can thrive.

As the summit approaches, the G100 reminded opposition leaders of their responsibility to the millions of Nigerians who expect more from them than the fortunes of any single party or politician. "History has presented the opposition with an opportunity. We must be wise enough not to waste it," the statement concluded.

The upcoming summit is seen as a pivotal moment for Nigeria's opposition, with hopes that it will lay the groundwork for a more unified front in the face of the current political landscape.
