The Commissioner of Police for Niger State, Adamu Elleman, has made a significant appeal for additional law enforcement personnel and resources to combat the ongoing insurgency in the region. This request was articulated during a visit from the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, aimed at addressing the recent abduction of numerous residents, including worshippers and farmers.

Elleman expressed gratitude for Disu's visit, which he described as a morale booster for the police force amid the troubling rise in kidnappings. He emphasized the urgent need for more manpower, armoured personnel carriers, and modern tools to enhance operational effectiveness against insurgents. "We ask for additional manpower, armoured personnel carriers and the deployment of modern tools to enhance our operations," Elleman stated.

Despite facing numerous challenges, including difficult terrain and the vast landmass of Niger State, Elleman reported that the police have made progress in their fight against crime. He noted that they have successfully arrested several bandits and their collaborators, dismantled armed robbery gangs, and recovered stolen livestock, demonstrating a commitment to safeguarding the lives and properties of residents.

Inspector-General Disu's visit was part of a directive from President Bola Tinubu, aimed at ensuring the safe return of the abducted individuals and boosting the morale of the police officers. In his address, Disu condemned the recent abductions and highlighted the deployment of AIG Victor Olaiya, along with the counter-terrorism unit and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, to expedite the rescue operations.

Disu reassured the officers of their vital role in maintaining security in the state, noting, "Niger State Police Command is one of the Commands in Nigeria that has not been giving us sleepless nights." He encouraged the police to remain vigilant and proactive in their duties while fostering stronger relationships with traditional, community, and religious leaders to enhance the fight against banditry and other criminal activities.

As the situation in Niger State continues to evolve, the call for reinforcements and improved resources reflects the urgent need to address the growing threat of insurgency and ensure the safety of all residents.
