The Edo State Government has officially issued transmission and distribution licences to CCETC Ogua Energy Limited for a significant 100-megawatt power project located in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area. This development signals the state's commitment to enhancing its energy infrastructure, with an ambitious target set for project completion by the end of this year.

Paul Usenbo, the state Commissioner for Power, announced the issuance of the licences in a statement released to journalists in Benin City. He highlighted that CCETC Ogua Energy Limited has successfully fulfilled the necessary requirements and timelines for the project's first phase, which was completed in July 2026. This progress has laid a solid foundation for the subsequent phases of the project.

Usenbo emphasized the collaborative efforts of relevant government authorities, who have provided essential technical guidance and regulatory support throughout the project's development. He reassured stakeholders that the project developers are adhering to the required standards and assessments mandated by regulatory bodies.

With the first phase now behind them, focus has shifted to the second and final phase of the project. The completion of this phase is crucial as it will lead to the commissioning of the power plant. Usenbo expressed optimism that CCETC Ogua Energy Limited will meet the deadlines, stating, "The expectation is that CCETC Ogua Energy Limited will complete the remaining phase of the 100-megawatt power project in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area and proceed to commissioning by the end of 2026."

The commissioner further noted that the majority of the project's key milestones are anticipated to be achieved by October 2026, barring any unforeseen challenges or regulatory issues. However, he also acknowledged the possibility of extending the timeline if significant obstacles arise, stating, "If there are any challenges faced by this project, I will give an extension of time."

Despite the potential for delays, Usenbo remains confident in the project's trajectory, citing the substantial work already completed at the site and the ongoing arrival and installation of power-generation equipment. He assured that the machinery being delivered will be operational within the expected timeframe, reinforcing the state's commitment to improving energy access for its residents.
