The Plateau State Police Command has taken action by arresting a group of female students linked to a disturbing video that has circulated online, depicting them assaulting another female student. This incident occurred in Pankshin Local Government Area and has raised significant concern among local authorities.

In a statement issued on Friday from Jos, the police spokesperson, SP Alfred Alabo, confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, Ayodeji Faniyan, ordered an immediate investigation and apprehension of those involved in the incident. Alabo remarked that upon learning about the video, the Commissioner directed the Area Commander in Pankshin to act swiftly, which has resulted in the arrests.

The arrested students, who are reportedly enrolled at the Federal University of Education in Pankshin, will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further inquiry. Alabo indicated that following the completion of investigations, the suspects would face charges in court.

Alabo condemned the violent act depicted in the video, emphasizing that such behavior, often referred to as jungle justice, is a criminal offense. He further stated that recording and sharing violent actions on social media could lead to additional charges, including those related to cybercrime. "In the process of committing this crime, sometimes you will commit several other crimes. It is not just you beating somebody or meting violence against your fellow human being; even having the mind to record it is cybercrime," he explained.

The police spokesperson urged the youth and the general public to avoid taking the law into their own hands, regardless of the circumstances. He encouraged individuals to report disputes to the appropriate authorities instead of resorting to violence. Alabo stated, "Learn to report to a third party that has the authority to hear your matter and give you the justice that you deserve."

He also called on residents to provide timely and credible information to security agencies, which can help prevent potential escalations of violence. Alabo reiterated the importance of steering clear of jungle justice and emphasized the need to report grievances to the police or other relevant security bodies. "Stay clear of jungle justice. Report cases anytime you are aggrieved to the right and appropriate authority," he said. The ongoing investigation aims to address the alarming trend of violence among youths and promote peaceful conflict resolution in the community.
