In a significant military operation, Nigerian troops successfully neutralized over 21 Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters during a joint offensive in the Kopre Mountain area of Hong Local Government Area, Adamawa State, on August 27, 2026. This operation, which involved the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) Tactical Team and the newly inducted 226 Battalion, aimed to dismantle a known terrorist enclave and locate abducted individuals, including school children taken in June 2026.
The operation was executed in the early hours of the day, as confirmed by Mohammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer. Troops utilized credible intelligence to conduct a stealth insertion into the terrorists' camp, navigating the challenging and rugged terrain of the area. The joint force engaged the terrorists in two separate confrontations, ultimately leading to the dismantling of the entire camp.
As reported by Channels Television, the military's operation resulted in the destruction of key logistics and supply chains used by the terrorists. Troops seized and destroyed motorcycles, bicycles, and jerrycans filled with Premium Motor Spirit, which were believed to be part of the terrorists' operational resources. Additionally, several AK-47 rifles, magazines, and a substantial quantity of 7.62mm Special ammunition were recovered during the operation.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts to locate and rescue individuals abducted by terrorist groups, including residents from the Mussa community and school children from Lassa. The Military High Command commended the troops for their effective execution of the mission, highlighting their capability to operate under restrictive conditions and their commitment to restoring peace in the North East region.
The theatre command has reiterated its determination to continue operations until all abducted persons are recovered, emphasizing the broader goal of ensuring lasting peace across the region.
