The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to a partnership with Taraba State aimed at unlocking the region's economic potential in agriculture, energy, tourism, infrastructure, and mineral resources. This announcement was made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during a gala night in Jalingo celebrating Taraba State's 35th anniversary and the unveiling of the Taraba Regional Development Master Plan.

Idris described the Master Plan as a crucial blueprint for sustainable growth, emphasizing that its success would depend on effective implementation and its positive impact on the lives of Taraba citizens. He conveyed the greetings of President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council, stating that the anniversary serves as a moment to reflect on the progress made since the state's creation in 1991 and to chart a clear path for its future.

The minister praised Governor Agbu Kefas for his administration's long-term development approach, highlighting the importance of infrastructure in driving economic growth. He noted that the success of the Master Plan would be measured by tangible outcomes such as improved roads, job creation, and enhanced community connectivity.

Idris pointed out that Taraba is one of Nigeria's most promising economic frontiers, with significant opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, agro-processing, livestock, hydropower, tourism, manufacturing, and mineral development. He commended the Kefas administration for its investments in education and healthcare, particularly the policy of free and compulsory primary and secondary education, which has seen over N1.8 billion allocated in 2026 for examination registration for public school students.

The minister also highlighted the $268 million financing agreements signed between Taraba State and the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development. These agreements include projects for an integrated industrial park, 10,000 hectares of irrigated rice production and processing, and a 50-megawatt solar power plant in Jalingo. Idris stressed that these initiatives are vital for transforming the state’s natural resources into production and sustainable economic growth.

In addition, the federal government is supporting Taraba's development through major infrastructure projects, including the Gembu–Mbamnga–Yang Road and the Bali–Serti–Gashaka–Gembu Road. Idris described these projects as investments in connectivity and trade, which are essential for enhancing tourism and agricultural productivity.

On security matters, Idris mentioned ongoing reforms aimed at establishing a State Police to improve local policing, particularly in Taraba's diverse terrain. He noted the establishment of the Nigerian Army’s 10 Division in Jalingo as a sign of the federal government's commitment to enhancing security in the region.

Idris also discussed the economic reforms initiated by the federal government, which have mobilized approximately N15.8 trillion in additional resources for development since the removal of the petrol subsidy. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that these resources lead to tangible improvements in citizens' lives, particularly for the youth and women.

Governor Kefas, in his address, called for continuity in governance and the need to build on past achievements while correcting shortcomings. He urged former leaders to contribute their experience and knowledge to the state's ongoing development, emphasizing that the progress of Taraba must transcend individual interests and political affiliations.

The gala night was attended by various dignitaries, including former Governor Rev. Jolly Nyame and other prominent figures from the government, traditional leaders, and the business community, all gathered to celebrate Taraba's rich history and its promising future.
