Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo has made a significant financial contribution to support National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in the state, donating ₦20,000 each to 1,490 corps members. This donation, totaling ₦29.8 million, was announced during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch 'B', Stream II orientation course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Asaya, Kabba.

The funds are intended to assist corps members with transportation and other essential needs as they transition from the orientation camp to their primary assignments across Kogi State. The governor's gesture was confirmed by James Sani, the Information Officer of the Kogi State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, in a statement released on August 26, 2026.

At the event, Governor Ododo, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Aridaojo Anyebe, expressed his administration's confidence in the potential of young Nigerians to drive development in the state. He emphasized the importance of the corps members integrating responsibly into their host communities and applying the skills they acquired during their three-week orientation.

Ododo highlighted the values of discipline, integrity, patriotism, and service, urging the corps members to embody these principles throughout their year of national service. He also reassured them of the government's commitment to ensuring their safety and welfare during their deployment.

In her remarks, Kogi State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Chris Tochi, commended Governor Ododo for his consistent support for corps members in the state. She noted that his assistance has included both food items and financial aid on previous occasions, describing the latest cash donation as timely and reflective of his genuine concern for their welfare.

The governor's initiative comes amidst other states enhancing support for NYSC members. For instance, Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru recently approved a ₦30,000 monthly stipend for corps members, while Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa offered automatic employment to seven corps members and provided ₦1 million each to 66 award recipients during a separate event.

Governor Ododo's donation is seen as a proactive measure to empower youth and facilitate their contributions to the state's development, reinforcing his administration's commitment to youth-focused initiatives.
