A two-year-old boy, who was kidnapped from the Bunyia Iruan community in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State, has been successfully rescued. The boy was taken from his home two days prior to the rescue, which occurred in the Ogberia Ochoro community of Ogoja Local Government Area.

The swift action of local youths led to the apprehension of two suspects, identified as Suahnen Lorlumun and Sekeghshie Silas, both aged 17. According to reports, the suspects were caught by members of a community vigilante group while allegedly attempting to transport the boy through the area. An eyewitness recounted the incident, stating that the community members noticed the suspicious activity and intervened to stop the suspects.

After their capture, the suspects were taken to the village square, where they faced immediate retribution from the community. They were reportedly tied to a concrete wall fence and beaten before the police arrived on the scene. The Clan Head of Bunyia Iruan intervened, ensuring the suspects were brought to the Okubuchi Police Outpost for their safety amid fears that the community might take the law into their own hands.

The Cross River State Police Command confirmed the incident through its Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah. In a statement issued to journalists, Eitokpah detailed the sequence of events, emphasizing the police's awareness of the situation and the need to protect the suspects from potential mob justice.

Following their arrival at the police outpost, the two suspects were released into the custody of the Clan Head, accompanied by three officials from the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) based in Calabar. This action was taken to ensure a proper investigation and handling of the case.

The rescue of the boy has been met with relief in the community, highlighting the importance of vigilance and cooperation among residents in combating crime. Local leaders have called for continued support from law enforcement to prevent such incidents in the future and to ensure the safety of children in the region.
