Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has publicly accused Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, of securing loans without the necessary approval from the Senate. "Wike only comes to the Senate during budget season, and every other matter concerning the FCT is effectively buried without proper legislative oversight," she stated.

Kingibe's criticism extends to an ad hoc committee that was established to investigate Wike's controversial demolitions in the FCT. The senator revealed that this committee has never convened a single meeting, despite the Senate's directive for Wike to suspend demolitions until the committee could present its findings. She emphasized that the committee's chairman has shown a favorable bias towards Wike, which she believes has impeded any meaningful oversight.

"The chairman of the committee was saying that Wike is the best thing ever that has happened to Abuja," Kingibe noted, implying that such sentiments have compromised the committee's ability to function impartially.

Moreover, Kingibe accused the Senate as a whole of shielding Wike from scrutiny on various issues related to the FCT, stating, "Everything that has to do with the FCT is pushed under the carpet under this Senate. Wike is taking loans, and he has never come to the Senate for approvals. He only comes to the Senate when it's time for the budget."
