The Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) is uniting in grief following the recent death of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo. In a significant move, TAMPAN President Bolaji Amusan, widely recognized as Mr Latin, has issued a directive for all state governors and executives within the association to hold special prayer sessions during their upcoming meetings.

This memorandum, shared on Mr Latin's Instagram account on August 26, 2026, comes just days after Ogogo's passing on August 23, 2026, after a prolonged battle with stage 4 cancer. His death marks another sorrowful chapter for Yoruba Nollywood, which has faced a series of losses in 2026, including the recent deaths of other notable actors.

In the memorandum, Mr Latin emphasized the importance of these prayer sessions, instructing that they focus on seeking divine guidance, forgiveness of sins, and protection for the living members of the association. He also called for prayers for the peaceful repose of those who have passed away. The message read, "Following the recent passing of our beloved colleague, Ogogo, all State Chapters are hereby directed to include a special prayer session in their next State Meeting. The prayer should focus on seeking God's face, forgiveness of our sins, His protection over the living, and preservation of our members from death, sickness and destruction. We should also pray for the forgiveness and peaceful repose of our departed colleagues."

Ogogo was laid to rest on August 24, 2026, with many from the entertainment industry attending to pay their respects. Notable figures including Yinka Quadri, Jide Kosoko, and Femi Adebayo were among those who gathered to honor the late actor, reflecting the deep impact he had on the Yoruba film community.

This year has been particularly painful for Yoruba Nollywood, with several prominent figures passing away. Just a week before Ogogo, veteran actor Elegbeje Ado also succumbed to illness. The industry mourned the loss of Kola Oyewo in June at the age of 80, while Adeshina Okiki tragically lost his life in a road accident the same month. Earlier in the year, the community was shaken by the deaths of Aunty Ajara and Allwell Ademola, who suffered a heart attack in December 2025.

As TAMPAN members come together in prayer, the call for unity and remembrance serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the enduring legacy of those who have contributed to the rich tapestry of Nigerian cinema.
