Aliko Dangote, a prominent industrialist, has made a significant commitment to Lagos State University (LASU) by pledging ₦600 million for the construction of a girls' hostel and offering job opportunities to first-class graduates in Engineering and Sciences. This announcement was made during the combined convocation ceremonies for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions, as reported on LASU's official Facebook page.

The pledge was revealed by Dangote's daughter, Hajia Fatima Aliko Dangote, who represented her father at the event. In recognition of his contributions to entrepreneurship and human capital development, Dangote was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Business Honoris Causa during the ceremonies. The initiative aims to enhance student welfare and promote academic excellence at the university.

The Aliko Dangote Foundation's support will specifically focus on providing accommodation for female students, addressing a critical need for housing within the university. Furthermore, the foundation has committed to offering preferential employment opportunities to first-class graduates in Engineering and Sciences after they complete their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme. This initiative is part of a broader effort to create pathways for graduates entering the workforce.

LASU celebrated a remarkable achievement during the convocation, with a total of 20,604 graduates from both academic sessions, including 494 first-class graduates. Among them, Ayilara Lawal Olawale from the Department of Project Management was recognized as the overall best graduating student for the 2024/2025 session, achieving a CGPA of 4.96. For the 2025/2026 session, Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide from the Department of Aerospace Engineering topped the list with a CGPA of 4.97.

In addition to Dangote's contributions, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also recognized academic excellence by donating ₦20 million each to the two overall best graduating students. In his final address as Visitor to LASU, Sanwo-Olu congratulated the graduates and acknowledged the investments made by his administration in the university, including the commissioning of new facilities such as the Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Library Complex and expanded student accommodation.

The university's Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, highlighted that 262 students achieved first-class honours in the 2024/2025 academic session, while 232 students did the same in 2025/2026. The continued support from the Dangote Foundation and the Lagos State Government underlines a commitment to improving educational infrastructure and graduate opportunities in the region.

During the convocation, three distinguished Nigerians, including Dangote, were awarded honorary doctorate degrees for their significant contributions to society. The Chancellor of LASU, Oba Dr. Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, Telade IV, expressed gratitude for the support received from the Lagos State Government and emphasized the importance of education and human capital development.
