Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has called for increased collaboration between the government and private sector to drive development in the state. This appeal was made during the inauguration of a mini solar power grid in Gbelebu Community, a project executed by Okomu Oil Palm Company Plc in partnership with the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in the Niger Delta and ETIN Power.

The event took place on Thursday, with the Governor represented by his Deputy, Dennis Idahosa. In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Friday Aghedo, Okpebholo highlighted the critical role of the private sector in achieving the state's developmental goals. He emphasized that the government’s SHINE Agenda aims to enhance infrastructure, bolster security, and support agriculture and human development, thereby fostering a conducive environment for business growth.

Okpebholo noted that the solar project is not merely about providing electricity but is a significant investment in the community’s welfare, economic opportunities, and overall quality of life. He commended Okomu Oil Palm Company and its partners for their commitment to community development and urged other businesses to follow suit by supporting their localities.

In his remarks, the Acting Chairman of Ovia South West Local Government Area, Nosakhare Edobor, encouraged Gbelebu residents to safeguard developmental projects in their area, underscoring their importance in enhancing living conditions and promoting economic activities.

The Managing Director of Okomu Oil Palm Company, Graham Hefer, shared insights about the company’s journey since its establishment in 1976, noting its growth into a significant agribusiness player in Nigeria. Hefer reaffirmed the company's dedication to contributing positively to the development of its host communities as it celebrates 50 years of operations.

High Chief Enoch Sulubor, the Amanawei of Gbelebu Community, expressed gratitude towards Okomu Oil Palm Company for its various developmental initiatives, which he said have fortified the relationship between the company and the community. He also acknowledged the Edo State Government's support in bringing the solar power project to fruition.

Residents of Gbelebu turned out in large numbers to celebrate the commissioning of the solar grid, expressing optimism that the new electricity supply would invigorate local economic activities and enhance their quality of life. The project is anticipated to provide a more stable electricity supply, fostering opportunities for small businesses and other economic ventures in the community.
