DSS arrests man impersonating officer to extort Abuja motorists
Moferewa Maiye was caught using a fake firearm and DSS uniform to intimidate drivers.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has apprehended a man named Moferewa Maiye for allegedly posing as one of its officers and extorting money from motorists in Abuja. The arrest took place late Wednesday at his hideout near NITEL Junction on Adetokunbo Ademola Way, Wuse II, following credible intelligence received by the DSS.
At the time of his capture, Maiye was reportedly wearing a tactical uniform resembling that of the DSS and was found in possession of a toy pistol. According to a security source, he used this disguise to intimidate unsuspecting commuters and demand money from them.
Maiye, who claims to hail from Agbajojun Village in the Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State, told investigators that he had a brother who was a DSS operative but had died several years ago. He identified his late brother as Monday Maiye and asserted that the uniform and equipment found with him belonged to his deceased sibling.
The DSS is currently conducting further investigations to determine the length of time Maiye has been involved in such impersonation and extortion activities. Authorities are also looking into how he acquired the DSS uniform and other tactical gear.
This incident highlights the increasing concern among security agencies regarding the prevalence of individuals impersonating law enforcement personnel to intimidate the public and engage in criminal activities. The DSS has reiterated its commitment to tackling such impersonation cases to protect citizens and maintain public safety.
