Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his administration's dedication to delivering essential projects that will enhance the lives of residents, despite the limited time remaining in his tenure. Speaking during the inauguration of the 12.1km Egwi-Afara-Mba Road in the Etche Local Government Area, Fubara emphasized that his government would continue to address critical infrastructure and development needs until his term concludes in 2027.

Fubara, who recently announced his withdrawal from the upcoming governorship race, stated that his decision was made in the interest of peace and development for Rivers State. He acknowledged the challenges of time constraints but insisted that the essence of governance lies in improving the lives of the people. "What is governance all about? Governance is providing services, protection of lives and properties. Governance is, you can’t solve every problem, but you must try to meet the needs of the people," he remarked.

The governor expressed confidence that the next administration, led by the All Progressives Congress, would continue the work he has initiated. He highlighted that the newly completed road would significantly boost business activities and enhance security in the Etche area. Fubara also committed to extending the road to the Ndashi community and completing the General Hospital in the region, reiterating that healthcare would remain a priority for his administration.

"We have a very limited time, and because of that I can’t stand here and promise you everything. But one aspect we will not play with presently, no matter how right it is for us, is the issue of healthcare," Fubara stated. He mentioned ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts for zonal hospitals across the state, with projects in Bori, Omoku, and Degema either completed or nearing completion. He assured the residents of Etche that a standard hospital would be established before his exit from office.

The governor described the completion of the Egwi-Afara-Mba Road as a significant achievement, noting that the project began in 2024 during a challenging period for his administration. He emphasized the importance of perseverance in governance, stating, "It was a long and difficult project, but I said even while we are going through these challenges, we still have to be working because at the end of the day what posterity records is not the reason for your failures but the little things that you achieved."

Fubara praised the Etche Local Government Chairman, Bonnyface Njoku, for his contributions to enhancing street lighting and security in the area. He expressed confidence that his successor would complete all ongoing projects, thanking the people of Etche for their support throughout his tenure.

The Commissioner for Works, Prof. Temple Nwofor, provided further details about the Egwi-Afara-Mba Road, explaining that it connects key locations within the local government and includes extensive drainage and ancillary works. The road, awarded on October 29, 2024, was completed on schedule, showcasing the Fubara administration's commitment to quality infrastructure development in Rivers State.
