Son arrested for allegedly murdering mother in Ondo State

A tragic incident has unfolded in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area in Ondo State, where a son, Samuel Akoade, has been arrested for the alleged murder of his mother, Olufunke Akoade. The incident reportedly took place on Sunday, August 16, 2026, around 5 PM in the Powerline area of the community.
According to the Ondo State Police Command, Samuel is accused of attacking his mother with a machete, inflicting severe injuries that led to her death. Police Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident, stating that the authorities received a report of the murder and found Olufunke lying in a pool of blood at her residence.
Initial investigations revealed that the victim had sustained deep machete cuts and was already deceased by the time she was discovered. Following the report, police operatives from the Ore Division quickly responded to the scene, secured the area, and began preliminary investigations. They recovered a machete believed to have been used in the attack and documented the scene with photographs.
Reports indicate that Samuel Akoade fled the scene before police arrived but was later apprehended through sustained efforts by the police operatives. He is currently in custody as investigations continue.
The remains of Olufunke Akoade have been taken to a mortuary, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Akure for further examination. Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, has instructed that the investigation be thorough and professional to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic killing and to ensure that justice is served.
Abayomi Jimoh reassured the public of the command's commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the state. He urged residents to provide timely information to the police regarding any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in maintaining safety.
