The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has extended its congratulations to Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, following his recent victory in the governorship election held on Saturday. The party characterized the election results as a testament to the trust and confidence the people of Osun have in Adeleke's leadership.

In a statement released by the PDP's National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, the party expressed its pride in Adeleke's re-election and wished him success as he embarks on another four-year term. The statement noted, "The Peoples Democratic Party warmly congratulates the Executive Governor of Osun State, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his well-deserved victory."

Adeleke, who contested the election under the Accord Party banner, managed to secure his second term by defeating Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a closely contested race that featured candidates from 15 political parties. According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Adeleke garnered 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji received 444,815 votes, giving Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished third with 17,180 votes.

The election results also highlighted a significant improvement in Adeleke's electoral margin compared to the previous 2022 governorship election, where he won by only 28,344 votes against the then-incumbent APC governor, Gboyega Oyetola. In the latest election, Adeleke won 19 out of 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured 11. Notably, Salaam did not win any local government area, including his own home council of Ejigbo.

The PDP acknowledged the political dynamics surrounding Adeleke's re-election, emphasizing its contribution to the democratic development of Osun State, despite his shift to the Accord Party for this election. The party's statement encouraged all political actors to prioritize the welfare of the people and foster a spirit of cooperation and unity.

"May this victory mark the beginning of an even greater chapter of progress, unity, and prosperity for the people of Osun State," the PDP urged, calling for respect for the electoral outcome and a commitment to maintaining peace and stability within the state. The party reiterated its hope that all political players would place the interests of Osun and Nigeria above partisan politics, ensuring a collaborative approach to governance in the coming years.
