The National Film Institute (NFI) in Jos has officially welcomed 233 new students into its film production, film culture, and archiving studies programs during a matriculation ceremony held on August 12. This event marks a significant milestone for the students as they embark on their educational journey at Nigeria's foremost film training institution, which is affiliated with the University of Jos.
The ceremony was attended by a gathering of parents, guardians, and staff members of the NFI, all of whom celebrated the new students' entry into the world of film education. Professor Tanko Ishaya, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, was present at the event and took the opportunity to address the students. He urged them to maintain good conduct and avoid engaging in activities that could jeopardize their academic pursuits.
Dr. Nuhu Ali, the Managing Director and Chairman of the NFI Governing Council, also spoke during the ceremony. He encouraged the students to make the most of their time at the institute, emphasizing the importance of developing their skills and competencies. Dr. Ali expressed confidence that the contributions of these students would play a crucial role in shaping the future of Nigeria's film industry.
The event saw participation from several key figures in the film and education sectors, including Prof. Hussaini Tsaku, the Head of the Theatre & Film Arts Department at the University of Jos, and Prof. Pomak Tengya, the Rector of the NFI. Mrs. Esther Fakainde, the Head of Human Resources at the Nigeria Film Corporation, was also in attendance, highlighting the collaborative efforts between educational institutions and the film industry.
As the students begin their studies, they are encouraged to embrace the opportunities presented to them and commit to their education, which will ultimately contribute to the growth and development of the Nigerian film landscape.
