The Nigeria International Gospel Music Awards (NIGMA) 2026 took place recently, showcasing the remarkable talents and contributions of gospel music stars and industry stakeholders. The event, organized by the Academy of Gospel Music Nigeria, recognized individuals and groups whose efforts have significantly impacted the growth and dissemination of gospel music in Nigeria and beyond.

Among the standout honorees was Moses Bliss, who was awarded the prestigious title of Artiste of the Year. The night also saw the collaboration of Gaise Baba and Lawrence Oyor, whose song "No Turning Back II" triumphed in multiple categories, winning Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, and Afro-Gospel Song of the Year.

Frank Edwards was celebrated for his album "Heart of Worship," which earned him the Album of the Year award. In the female category, Sunmisola Agbebi was recognized as the Female Vocalist of the Year for her exceptional vocal prowess. The Group/Choir of the Year award went to Tim Godfrey and Fearless Community, highlighting their impactful presence in the gospel music scene.

The event also paid tribute to the legendary Chinyere Udoma, who received the Indigenous Gospel Song of the Year award for her hit "Eze Abata." Additionally, Tkeyz was named the Sammie Okposo Next Rated Artiste, signifying his potential to rise within the industry.

In recognition of the growing influence of Nigerian gospel artists abroad, Nkiruka "Enkay" Ogboruche was awarded Diaspora Female Artiste of the Year, while Limoblaze took home the Diaspora Male Artiste of the Year award, reflecting the global reach of Nigerian gospel music.

The ceremony also honored several gospel music veterans and pioneers for their enduring contributions. The Experience was recognized as Gospel Concert of the Year, while the Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Bola Are and Kunle Ajayi for their significant legacies in the genre. Notable figures such as Sinach and Kingsley Ike received Gospel Icon Awards, celebrating their invaluable impact on gospel music.

Furthermore, the Kingdom Impact Award was given to Paul Adefarasin, Jerry Eze, Emmanuel Iren, and Biodun Fatoyinbo, acknowledging their influential roles in ministry and media. The Legacy Award was presented to Buchi, Lara George, and Segun Obe, while the late Sammie Okposo was honored posthumously for his contributions to gospel music. Special Recognition Awards were also given to emerging talents like Adeyinka Alaseyori, Pelumi Deborah, Blessing Lopez, G-EFFECT, and Akpororo.

The NIGMA 2026 not only celebrated the achievements of contemporary artists but also highlighted the rich history and ongoing evolution of gospel music in Nigeria, ensuring that both new and veteran artists receive the recognition they deserve.
