During the recent Osun State governorship election, suspected agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) disrupted the counting of votes for the Accord party at a polling unit associated with Gboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy. This incident occurred at the Lado Hill polling unit in Boripe Local Government Area after voters had left and no representative from the Accord party was present.

Reports indicate that the situation escalated when an individual wearing an APC tag approached officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and demanded that the ballots cast for Accord be declared void. Initially, the presiding officer resisted this demand, but the situation changed when police and other security personnel moved away from the area, leading to the officer's eventual compliance.

In a concerning turn of events, the APC agent, along with another unidentified individual, reportedly collected ink from the electoral officials and thumb-printed the Accord ballots, an act aimed at invalidating them. This incident raises significant questions about the integrity of the electoral process in the state.

At the conclusion of the counting process, the presiding officer announced results for other parties, revealing 1 vote for the African Democratic Party, 5 for the African Democratic Congress, 2 for the Action Alliance, and a substantial 242 votes for the APC. Notably, no votes were recorded for the Accord party, which was led by candidate Ademola Adeleke.

The Osun governorship election featured a total of 14 candidates, with prominent contenders including Bola Oyebamiji of the APC and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The election has been described as one of the most significant political contests in recent years, with heightened scrutiny on the electoral process and the actions of party agents.

The absence of an Accord representative at the polling unit during the vote counting process further complicates the situation, as it raises concerns about the party's ability to monitor the integrity of the election in real-time. This incident is likely to fuel ongoing debates about electoral fairness and the role of party agents in safeguarding the democratic process in Nigeria.
