During the governorship election in Osun State, an official from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) intervened when a man was reportedly counting voters at a polling unit in Akoda Ward 9, Unit 1, Ede. The incident, which was captured on video and shared by TVC News, highlights the vigilance of election monitors during the electoral process.

The ICPC official confronted the individual, instructing him to cease his actions and wait for the voting to officially begin. "When the election commences, we queue up. We are here to monitor. We don’t want any problems," the official stated, emphasizing the importance of following proper election protocols.

The official further admonished the man, asserting that he had no authority to record the number of voters present at the polling unit. "You don’t have any right to be writing numbers. You know your job," the ICPC official reiterated, reinforcing the need for compliance with electoral regulations.

Following the confrontation, the official directed the man to focus on casting his vote instead of counting others. "When the election commences, queue up. Go and do your work… Go and cast your vote," he added, ensuring that the electoral process remained orderly and free from interference.

This incident occurred amidst heightened monitoring efforts by security agencies and election observers across Osun State, aimed at preventing electoral malpractice and ensuring a smooth and peaceful voting experience for all participants. The ICPC's proactive stance reflects its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process in Nigeria, especially during critical events such as gubernatorial elections.
