Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has provided food items and other essential supplies to military personnel stationed at the newly established military base in Ikoyi-Ile, Oriire Local Government Area of the state, as part of efforts to improve their welfare and appreciate their commitment to securing the area.
The military base was established following the abduction of teachers, pupils and other travellers in Oriire Local Government, an incident that raised security concerns in the axis. The abducted victims were recently rescued by the military after weeks in captivity.
The intervention by the state government is aimed at supporting the troops who have remained in the community to maintain security and prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
Items supplied to the military base included bags of rice, beans, garri, cooking oil, semo, seasonings, beverages, bottled water and other foodstuffs, beddings, alongside basic household consumables intended to ease the daily living conditions of the personnel.
Sources at the base said the troops also require additional welfare support, including toilets, potable water, medical supplies and improved communication equipment.
The personnel were also said to need operational vehicles, motorcycles for patrols, fuel, security gadgets and improved accommodation to enhance their effectiveness while carrying out their duties in the area.
Governor Makinde was said to have approved the delivery of the food supplies as a demonstration of the state’s appreciation for the sacrifices being made by the military in protecting lives and property.
The governor has repeatedly reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies, noting that peace and security remain essential to the state’s economic growth and development.
The Millitary personnel commended the gesture, describing it as a morale booster for the troops whose presence has restored confidence among residents following the recent security challenges.
They expressed hope that continued collaboration between the Oyo State Government and the military would further strengthen security in the area, sustain the gains recorded in the rescue of the abducted victims and ensure lasting peace across the Oriire axis.
