Marketplace Overview & Getting Started

What is the NigeriaNewsFeed Marketplace?

It is a free classifieds marketplace where Nigerians can advertise items and services for sale. You post what you are selling, buyers see it and contact you directly by phone, WhatsApp or on-site chat, and you both agree on payment and delivery between yourselves.

We are a listing platform, not a shop. We do not hold your money, we do not process payment between buyer and seller, and we do not deliver goods.

Does the Marketplace handle payment or delivery between buyer and seller?
No. There is no checkout, no cart, no escrow and no order system on the Marketplace. Every sale is arranged privately between the buyer and the seller.

The only payments that happen on this website are payments to NigeriaNewsFeed for optional paid services — Premium Membership, Boosting and wallet funding. Those go through your Wallet. Money for the actual goods never passes through us.

This is why the safety tips further down this page matter so much. Please read them.

Do I need an account to use the Marketplace?

To browse and search: no account needed. Anybody can look at listings.

To post a listing, chat with a seller, or use the Wallet: yes, you must be registered and logged in.

How do I create an account?

Use the Register page. You will need a valid email address, which you confirm before your account becomes fully active. You can also sign in with Google.

One account works everywhere on NigeriaNewsFeed — the same login gives you the forum, the Marketplace, your Wallet and your dashboard. You do not create a separate seller account.

Does it cost anything to sell?

Posting a listing is free, and we take no commission on anything you sell. Whatever the buyer pays you is 100% yours.

The only things that cost money are optional promotion tools:

  • Boost — push one listing to the top for a few days.
  • Premium Membership (Diamond / Trusted Seller) — a higher listing limit, a badge and better placement.

You never have to pay to sell here.

2

Creating & Managing Listings

How do I post a listing?

Log in, then go to Post a Listing. Fill in the form and submit. You will be asked for:

  • What you are listing — a physical item, a digital product, or a skill / service.
  • Title, description and price.
  • Category (for physical items) and your state.
  • Condition — New, Fairly Used, Used or Refurbished. Digital products and services are automatically marked "Not Applicable".
  • Your phone number and/or WhatsApp number so buyers can reach you.
  • Photos.

If you are selling a service that is delivered online, you do not need to pick a state.

How many listings can I have at once?

Your limit depends on your seller level. Active and pending listings both count towards it.

Seller levelListing limit
Standard (everyone)5 listings
Verified (ID approved)10 listings
💎 Diamond Seller35 listings
👑 Trusted Seller Unlimited

If you hit your limit you will see a message when you try to post. Delete or close an old listing to free a space, or upgrade your plan.

How many photos can I upload, and what size?
  • Up to 10 images per listing.
  • Maximum 5MB per image.
  • Accepted formats: JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF.

The first image becomes the main photo shown on the listing card, so make it your clearest shot.

How do I write a good listing that actually sells?
  • Use your own photos. Real pictures of the actual item, in good daylight, from several angles. Buyers scroll past stock photos.
  • Be specific in the title. "Tecno Spark 10 Pro 256GB Clean" beats "Phone for sale".
  • Be honest about condition. Mention scratches, faults or missing parts. It saves you wasted trips and arguments.
  • Put a real price. Listings with no price or a fake "₦1" price get ignored and may be removed.
  • Include what is in the box, warranty status and whether the price is negotiable.
  • Do not paste your phone number into the description — there is a proper field for it, and buyers already get Call and WhatsApp buttons.
How do I edit or delete my listing?

Go to My Listings in your Marketplace dashboard. Every listing has Edit and Delete options.

Editing an approved listing may send it back for review, because the moderation team checks changed content the same way it checks new content.

You can also delete listings that are still pending or that were rejected.

What do the different listing statuses mean?
StatusWhat it means
PendingSubmitted and waiting for a moderator. Not yet visible to buyers.
ActiveApproved and live. Buyers can find and contact you.
RejectedDid not pass review. You can edit it and submit again, or delete it.
Sold / ClosedYou marked it finished. It no longer appears in search.

You can check any listing at any time on the Listing Status page.

What can I sell? What is not allowed?

Allowed: genuine physical goods, digital products, and skills or services you can actually deliver — across categories such as Phones & Gadgets, Cars & Vehicles, Real Estate, Electronics, Fashion, Services, Animals & Pets.

Not allowed — these will be rejected and can get your account restricted:

  • Stolen goods, or anything you cannot prove you own.
  • Illegal drugs, prescription medicines, or unapproved health "cures".
  • Firearms, ammunition, weapons and explosives.
  • Counterfeit or fake-brand goods, and pirated software, films or music.
  • Live wildlife, endangered animals and their parts.
  • Adult or sexual content and services.
  • Human parts, blood or bodily fluids.
  • Stolen data, hacked accounts, hacking tools, or someone else's personal information.
  • Money-doubling, "investment" schemes, forex/crypto "profit" plans, loan scams, MMM-style schemes and any get-rich-quick offer.
  • Job offers that demand a registration or "processing" fee from the applicant.
  • Government documents, certificates, results or ID cards.
  • Anything you are not lawfully permitted to sell in Nigeria.
Repeatedly posting prohibited items will get your account suspended or banned, and any wallet balance you hold does not protect you from that.
3

Approval, Moderation & Account Standing

Does my listing go live immediately?

No. Listings are reviewed by our moderation team before they appear. After you submit, your listing sits at Pending until a moderator approves it.

Most listings are reviewed within 24 hours. You will get a notification the moment the decision is made, and you can watch the status on the Listing Status page.

Why was my listing rejected?

The usual reasons:

  • The item is on the prohibited list.
  • The description is too thin, or is mostly capital letters and emojis.
  • The photos are stock images, watermarked, or clearly not the actual item.
  • Wrong category, or a fake price used to get attention.
  • Contact details or links pushing buyers off the platform in a suspicious way.
  • It duplicates a listing you already have.
  • Our anti-spam system flagged it as a likely scam.

Fix the problem, edit the listing and submit it again. If you believe the rejection was a mistake, contact support with your listing title.

How does spam and fraud protection work?

Every submission passes through an automatic anti-spam and content check before it is published. It is deliberately tuned for how Nigerians actually write — normal Nigerian English and Pidgin will not get you blocked.

What it targets is genuinely harmful content: scam and fraud patterns, money-doubling offers, phishing links, bot posting, and duplicate flooding. Anything suspicious is held for a human moderator rather than being auto-published.

Reports from real users are the other half of the system. When you report a bad listing, it goes straight into the moderation queue.

What happens if my account gets restricted or banned?

Depending on how serious the breach is, an administrator may:

  • Reject or remove individual listings — the mildest action.
  • Suspend the account temporarily — you cannot post while suspended.
  • Ban the account — for scams, fraud or repeated serious breaches.
  • Revoke a Verified badge if the verification was abused.

If you think a restriction was applied in error, appeal through the Contact Us page. Explain your side and include your username.

4

Searching, Buying & Contacting Sellers

How do I search and filter listings?

Use the search box on the Marketplace page, or browse by category. On the results page you can narrow things down by:

  • Keyword
  • Category
  • State — so you find sellers near you
  • Condition — New, Fairly Used, Used, Refurbished
  • Price range — minimum and maximum

You can also sort the results, for example by newest or by price.

How do I contact a seller?

Open the listing. Depending on what the seller provided you will see:

  • Show Contact — reveals the seller's phone number so you can call.
  • WhatsApp — opens a chat with a message about that listing already written.
  • Chat with Seller — on-site messaging, which keeps the conversation on NigeriaNewsFeed. You must be logged in.
Phone numbers are shown on request rather than published openly, which helps protect sellers from bulk harvesting by spammers.
Can I cancel an order or get a refund?

Because there is no checkout or order system here, NigeriaNewsFeed cannot issue refunds on items bought from a seller. We never received that money — you paid the seller directly.

Any refund, return or cancellation is a matter between you and the seller, on whatever terms you agreed before paying. Agree returns before you hand over money.

If a seller defrauded you, please report them so we can remove them and protect other buyers, and report the matter to the police. Refunds for wallet purchases are covered in the Wallet section below.

What are my responsibilities as a buyer or seller?

As a seller you must:

  • Actually own and possess what you list.
  • Describe it truthfully, faults included.
  • Honour the price you advertised.
  • Reply to genuine buyers, and close the listing once the item is gone.
  • Keep your dealings lawful and pay any tax you owe.

As a buyer you must:

  • Inspect the item before you pay.
  • Ask questions early rather than after the money has moved.
  • Turn up when you agree to meet, and negotiate respectfully.
  • Not waste sellers' time with offers you have no intention of honouring.

Both of you are responsible for your own transaction. NigeriaNewsFeed provides the platform, not a guarantee.

Verification & Badges

What is Marketplace Verification, and is it free?

Verification confirms that a real, identifiable person is behind the account. It is completely free.

Once approved you get a ✓ Verified badge beside your name, buyers trust you more, and your listing limit rises from 5 to 10.

How do I get verified and what do I need?

Go to Marketplace Verification and upload two things:

  1. A government-issued ID — NIN slip, Voter's Card, International Passport or Driver's Licence.
  2. A selfie of yourself holding that same ID, with your face and the ID both clear.

Then wait for review. Your status will show as Pending, then Approved or Rejected, and you will be notified either way.

Your documents are stored securely, are not published anywhere on the site, and are used only to confirm your identity.
Why was my verification rejected?

Almost always one of these:

  • The photo is blurred, dark, cropped or glared — the details must be readable.
  • The name on the ID does not match your account details.
  • The selfie does not show your face clearly, or the ID in it is not the one you uploaded.
  • The document has expired.
  • The document appears altered.

You may fix the problem and apply again. Use good daylight and hold the camera steady.

What do the different badges mean?
BadgeWhat it tells youHow it is obtained
✓ Verified Identity confirmed with a government ID. Free — submit ID and selfie.
💎 Diamond Seller Paying member with a higher listing limit and better placement. Paid Premium plan.
👑 Trusted Seller Our highest seller tier — top placement and unlimited listings. Paid Premium plan (highest tier).
Important: a badge shows that a seller paid for a plan or confirmed their identity. It is not a guarantee of honesty and it is not insurance. Always inspect goods before paying, whoever you are dealing with.
6

Premium Membership & Boosting

Normal vs Premium vs Boosted vs Verified — what is the difference?

People mix these up constantly, so here it is plainly. Two of them describe a listing, two of them describe a seller:

Normal listing

A free, ordinary listing. Appears in its category and in search, ordered mainly by how recent it is. Costs nothing. This is what everybody gets by default.

⚡ Boosted listing

Applies to one specific listing for a set number of days. It is pushed to the top of listings and shown in promoted slots. When the days run out the listing stays — it just stops being promoted.

💎 Premium seller

Applies to your whole account, not one listing. A paid membership giving you a badge, a much higher listing limit, free boost slots and better placement for everything you post.

✓ Verified seller

Applies to you as a person. Free. Confirms your identity with a government ID. It buys no promotion at all — it buys trust, plus a higher listing limit.

💰 Wallet balance

Money you have loaded onto NigeriaNewsFeed to pay for Boost and Premium. It is not for paying sellers and it is not a bank account.

In one line: Boost promotes one listing; Premium upgrades your account; Verified proves who you are; the Wallet is how you pay us for the first two.

What does boosting cost?
DurationPrice
24 Hours₦200
3 Days₦500
7 Days₦900
14 Days₦1,500
30 Days₦2,500

Pick a listing, pick a duration, and pay from your Wallet or by card, bank transfer or USSD. The boost starts immediately once payment succeeds.

Diamond and Trusted Sellers get free boost slots included, so they often pay nothing at all — see the next question.

Prices are set by the administrator and are shown live on the Boost page, which is always the final word.
What are free boost slots, and can I buy more?

A slot lets you keep one listing boosted at no extra charge while your membership is active:

  • 💎 Diamond Seller — 5 free slots.
  • 👑 Trusted Seller — 10 free slots.
  • Standard and Verified sellers — no free slots; pay per boost instead.

Slots recycle. Remove a boost from one listing and that slot immediately becomes free for another.

You can also buy extra permanent slots at ₦500 each (up to 10 at a time). Unlike a boost, a purchased slot does not expire.

What are the Premium Membership plans and prices?
PlanDurationPriceListingsBoost slots
💎 Diamond Monthly 30 days ₦5,000 50 5
💎 Diamond Quarterly 90 days ₦12,000 50 5
💎 Diamond Yearly 365 days ₦40,000 50 5
👑 Crown Monthly 30 days ₦15,000 Unlimited 10
👑 Crown Quarterly 90 days ₦36,000 Unlimited 10
👑 Crown Yearly 365 days ₦120,000 Unlimited 10

Diamond gives you a badge, a bigger listing limit, free boost slots and higher placement in search and category pages. Trusted Seller adds homepage feature placement, the highest ranking, unlimited listings and seller analytics.

Longer plans cost less per month. See Premium Membership for the current offers.

You must be Verified before you can buy a Premium plan. Get your free verification first.
What happens when my Premium Membership expires?

Your account steps down automatically — to Verified if your ID verification is approved, otherwise to Standard. The premium badge disappears, your listing limit returns to the normal level, and free boost slots stop.

Your listings are not deleted. If you are now over the lower limit you simply cannot post new ones until you are back under it or you renew.

You will get reminder notifications before expiry, so keep an eye on your notifications.

Can I get a refund on a boost or a premium plan?

Boosts and memberships are digital promotional services that start the moment payment succeeds, so they are not normally refundable once running.

Do contact support if something genuinely went wrong — you were charged twice, your wallet was debited but the boost never activated, or a payment failed while the money left your account. Those are billing errors and we fix them.

You can remove a boost early to release the slot, but removing it does not refund the money for the days you did not use.

7

Wallet, Payments & Fees

What is the Wallet for?

The Wallet holds a balance you have loaded onto NigeriaNewsFeed so you can pay for marketplace services quickly without re-entering card details every time.

You can use it for: boosting listings, buying extra boost slots, and paying for Premium Membership.

You cannot use it to pay a seller for goods. The Wallet only pays NigeriaNewsFeed for platform services. Never send wallet money to another user, and never accept a "pay me through your wallet" request — that is a scam.

Your wallet is at Dashboard › Wallet.

How do I fund my Wallet?

Open your Wallet, enter an amount and pay. Funding is handled by Korapay, our payment processor, and supports debit card, bank transfer and USSD.

  • Minimum: ₦100
  • Maximum per transaction: ₦1,000,000
  • Credited: immediately after the payment succeeds

Quick-amount buttons are provided, or type any figure you like.

Can I withdraw money from my Wallet to my bank?

No. The Wallet is a prepaid balance for platform services only — it is not a bank account and there is no withdrawal or cash-out feature.

Only load what you actually intend to spend on Boost or Premium.

Where do I see my transactions?

Your Wallet page lists every transaction with its date, amount and description. Credits (money in) show with a + and debits (money spent) with a −. It also totals how much you have funded and spent overall.

Boost and premium payments each keep their own payment record too, so nothing is unaccounted for.

Safety, Reporting & Notifications

Safety tips for buyers
  • Meet in a busy public place in daylight — a mall, a bank, a filling station. Never go to an empty compound or an unfamiliar address alone.
  • Inspect before you pay. Power the device on. Check the IMEI. Count the parts. Test everything you can.
  • Never pay in advance to someone you have not met, however convincing the story.
  • Be suspicious of prices that are too good. A brand-new iPhone at a quarter of the market price is bait, not a bargain.
  • Refuse pressure. "Another buyer is coming now, send the money quick" is the oldest trick there is.
  • Never share your bank OTP, card PIN, BVN or account password with anybody. No genuine seller needs them.
  • Take someone with you for expensive items, and tell a family member where you are going.
  • Get a receipt for anything substantial, and keep your chat history.
Safety tips for sellers
  • Confirm the money has truly landed in your account before releasing goods. Check your own bank app or USSD balance — never trust a screenshot or an alert SMS, both of which are trivially faked.
  • Beware fake transfer alerts. This is the single most common fraud against Nigerian sellers.
  • Meet buyers in public rather than inviting strangers to your home.
  • Refuse overpayment schemes. "I sent extra by mistake, refund the balance" is always a scam.
  • Do not ship before payment clears, and use a traceable courier.
  • Ignore requests to move off-platform to a strange link or app.
  • Never share your OTP, PIN or password with a "buyer" for any reason.
How do I report a bad listing or a user?

Every listing has a Report option, and user profiles can be reported too. Choose the reason that fits and add any detail you have:

  • Spam
  • Scam / Fraud
  • Harassment or Abuse
  • Hate Speech
  • Violence
  • Sexual Content
  • False Information
  • Copyright Violation
  • Duplicate Content
  • Illegal Activity
  • Other

Reports go straight to the moderation team and are reviewed privately — the person you reported is not told who reported them. If money has already been lost, please also report to the police; a platform ban stops them harming others but cannot recover your funds.

What notifications will I receive?

The bell icon in the header shows your alerts. For the Marketplace you will be notified when:

  • A listing is approved or rejected.
  • A buyer messages you or makes an offer.
  • A boost activates, or is about to expire.
  • Your ID verification is approved or rejected.
  • Your Premium Membership is nearing expiry, or has expired.
  • A wallet payment succeeds.

Notifications appear on the website and in the NigeriaNewsFeed app.

Common Problems & Troubleshooting

My payment failed but my bank debited me. What now?

Wait a short while first — card settlement is sometimes delayed a few minutes, and the balance may appear on its own. Refresh your Wallet page.

If it still has not landed after roughly an hour, contact support with:

  • The exact amount and the date/time
  • Your payment reference, if you have it
  • Your bank debit alert as proof
  • Your NigeriaNewsFeed username

Genuine failed transactions are either credited or reversed by the bank. Do not simply pay a second time hoping it works — check first.

My wallet was debited but the boost did not activate.

Check Boost first — the listing may in fact be boosted, and the change simply had not appeared on the page you were looking at.

If the debit is on your wallet statement but the listing is definitely not boosted, contact support with the transaction date, the amount and the listing title. We will either activate the boost or return the money to your wallet.

My listing does not appear in search.

Work through these in order:

  1. Check the status. Pending listings are not public yet, and rejected ones never go live. See Listing Status.
  2. Check the category and state you selected — a wrong category hides you from the buyers who are actually looking.
  3. Remember that ordering favours recency and promotion. An older, unboosted listing sits further down.
  4. Search your exact title. If it appears that way, the listing is live and the issue is ranking, not visibility.

Still nothing? Send us the listing title.

My images will not upload.
  • Size: each image must be under 5MB. Modern phone cameras easily exceed this — reduce the resolution or use your phone's "resize when sharing" option.
  • Format: only JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF are accepted. Screenshots saved as HEIC will not upload; convert them to JPG.
  • Count: maximum 10 images per listing.
  • Connection: a weak network will stall a large upload. Try on Wi-Fi, or upload fewer images at a time.
I cannot post — it says I reached my listing limit.

Active and pending listings both count. To free up space you can either delete or close listings you no longer need, or raise your limit:

  • Get verified (free) — raises you from 5 to 10.
  • Go Premium — up to 35, or unlimited on the Trusted Seller tier.
A buyer or seller is behaving suspiciously. What should I do?

Stop the transaction. No item is worth being defrauded or endangered for.

Then report the listing or the profile using the Report option, keep your chat history and any payment evidence, and if money has already changed hands report it to the police as well.

You are also welcome to tell us directly so we can act faster.

Still need help?

If your question is not answered above, our support team is happy to help. Include your username and the listing title where relevant so we can sort it out on the first reply.
