Nigerian midfielder Quadri Liameed hospitalized after head injury in Spain
Quadri Liameed was knocked unconscious during a match in Spain, but has since been discharged.

Nigerian footballer Quadri Liameed was hospitalized after suffering a head injury during a Spanish second-division match on Saturday. The incident occurred in the 42nd minute of the game between his club, Sabadell, and Albacete at the Carlos Belmonte Stadium.
Liameed was knocked unconscious when Albacete forward José Corpas attempted a volley, inadvertently striking him in the head. A viral video of the incident shows the moment of impact, which left Liameed collapsed on the pitch. Medical personnel from both teams rushed to provide immediate assistance, and he was fitted with a neck brace before being carried off on a stretcher.
After the incident, Liameed was transported by ambulance to Hospital Quirón Santa Cristina for further medical examination. The match was halted for approximately nine minutes as players and fans alike awaited updates on his condition. Following the incident, Corpas received a straight red card for the challenge.
Sabadell later confirmed that Liameed regained consciousness and was undergoing medical evaluations. Initial test results were reported as positive, providing some relief to fans and teammates. On November 1, the club announced via their social media platforms that Liameed had been discharged from the hospital, stating, "The best of the news has arrived! @Qlimeed has received medical discharge after all the tests have come out well and will return tonight to Sabadell!"
Liameed returned to Sabadell by car, accompanied by a member of the club’s medical staff. His father, Hajji Gafar, provided an update on his son’s condition, expressing gratitude for the medical care Liameed received in Spain. Gafar stated, “My son is now in a stable condition and is expected to undergo a Buffalo Concussion Bike Test (BCBT) within the next 48 hours.” He also plans to travel to Spain within the next ten days to support his son during the recovery process.
Despite the unfortunate incident involving Liameed, Albacete managed to secure a 2-1 victory over Sabadell, even after playing with ten men following Corpas's dismissal. The Spanish Football Federation's Disciplinary Committee is yet to determine the punishment for Corpas, who could face a ban of four to twelve matches if the incident is deemed to have caused serious injury.
Liameed, born on April 8, 2002, in Lagos, began his football career with Lagos-based 36 Lion FC before moving to Spain. He previously played for Lleida Esportiu before joining Sabadell in July 2025. The football community continues to wish him a swift recovery as he prepares to return to the pitch.
