Family questions circumstances of Ondo businessman’s alleged suicide
Kayode Akinbolusere's family raises doubts after he recorded a video before his death.

The tragic death of 46-year-old businessman Kayode Akinbolusere, known as Tolufe, has sparked controversy and raised suspicions among his family regarding the circumstances surrounding his demise. Akinbolusere reportedly took his own life on Thursday in his office located in Igba, Ondo State, after ingesting a poisonous substance.
Before his death, Akinbolusere recorded a video in which he expressed his struggles and stated that he was leaving his properties to his wife, Esther, and their three children residing in Canada. In the video, he insisted that his decision was voluntary and that no one had coerced him into making such a choice. He stated, “I am doing this on my own; nobody put pressure on me.” He also reflected on his journey as a businessman, mentioning the challenges he faced and the support he received from his wife during difficult times.
However, the family is not convinced of the authenticity of Akinbolusere's statements in the video. His uncle, Femi Akinbolusere, voiced deep concerns, suggesting that the manner in which Kayode spoke raised questions about whether he was under duress. Femi remarked, “You heard all he said laughing that he surrendered. Is that a gift to anybody? Is that a will? As if somebody was behind his seat pointing a gun at him.” He called for a thorough investigation by the police into the circumstances of his nephew's death, emphasizing the need to scrutinize the video for any signs of coercion.
Femi further urged law enforcement to conduct an autopsy and examine the video, questioning the implications of the word “surrender” used by Kayode. He expressed his belief that the police should investigate the potential involvement of others in Akinbolusere's death, stating, “That word ‘surrender’, doesn’t it mean that they forced him? They just killed him.” He also raised concerns about the implications of Kayode’s comments regarding his wife and their relationship, suggesting that further inquiry into the family dynamics was warranted.
In response to the family's allegations, the Ondo State Police Command has stated that preliminary investigations did not indicate any foul play. Police spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh confirmed that officers had visited the scene of the incident, where they recovered two empty bottles believed to have contained Sniper insecticide. The police noted that Akinbolusere's body showed no visible signs of violence during their examination, and his remains have been taken to the State Hospital Morgue for preservation and further examination.
As the investigation continues, the family remains in mourning, grappling with the loss of their loved one and the troubling circumstances surrounding his death. They are calling for justice and clarity in a situation that has left them with more questions than answers.
