Laura Ikeji reveals friendship fallout over Cartier bracelet gift
Businesswoman Laura Ikeji shares how refusing to post about a gift led to a friendship ending.

Laura Ikeji, a prominent entrepreneur, has opened up about the end of a close friendship, which she attributes to her decision not to share a Cartier bracelet gift on social media. In a recent video, Laura recounted how the incident unfolded, revealing that the woman who gifted her the bracelet was initially a customer before they developed a friendship.
The gift was presented to Laura on her birthday in March 2025, and she initially expressed excitement about it, sharing the news with her friends. However, the situation took a turn when the gift-giver began inquiring about when Laura would post the bracelet on her social media platforms. "A few days later, she sent me a message. She said, 'When are you posting it?' I'm like, posting what?" Laura recalled, highlighting the unexpected pressure she felt.
Laura explained that her perspective on sharing personal milestones online has evolved significantly. "Before now, the Laura that I know would post that bracelet ten times and tag the person that gifted me ten times. Now, I'm very happy, but not as loud as I used to be," she stated, indicating a shift in her priorities as she approaches her late 30s and focuses on her business.
Despite her efforts to show appreciation, including sending a photo of herself wearing the bracelet, the tension escalated. The gift-giver questioned whether Laura's reluctance to post meant she doubted the authenticity of the bracelet, despite having provided her with the receipt. This misunderstanding led to further complications in their relationship.
In a bid to resolve the situation, Laura eventually asked if the woman wanted the bracelet returned. The response, "Do whatever you want," indicated to Laura that the woman was indeed looking for the bracelet back. Subsequently, Laura packaged the bracelet and sent it back with her driver, marking the end of their friendship.
This incident sheds light on the pressures of social media and how it can affect personal relationships, particularly in a world where public acknowledgment of gifts is often seen as a measure of appreciation. Laura's experience serves as a reminder that friendships can sometimes hinge on expectations that may not align with one's personal values or current life stage.
