The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has taken disciplinary action against Abia Warriors and Katsina United, imposing fines for various violations related to security and conduct during recent home matches.

Abia Warriors faced a fine of N3.2 million after failing to ensure adequate security measures were in place during their match against Niger Tornadoes. The club was also reprimanded for an incident where a club official attempted to disrupt the live broadcast of the game by harassing a member of the broadcasting crew. This breach of protocol has drawn significant attention, highlighting the importance of maintaining professionalism in the league.

In addition to the financial penalty, Abia Warriors' multimedia officer, Chidera Favour Igwe, has been suspended from all NPFL match activities for five matches due to their involvement in the incident. The NPFL has emphasized that such actions are unacceptable and must be addressed to maintain the integrity of the league.

Katsina United was also sanctioned, receiving a N2 million fine for their failure to provide effective security during their match against Plateau United. The club allowed fans to encroach onto the field, which posed safety risks for players and officials alike. The NPFL has reiterated the necessity for clubs to adhere to security protocols to prevent such occurrences in the future.

Both clubs have been given a window of 48 hours from the date of notification to appeal the sanctions. The NPFL's actions reflect its commitment to upholding standards within the league and ensuring a safe environment for all participants.

As the season progresses, the NPFL continues to monitor club conduct closely, aiming to foster a competitive yet secure atmosphere for football in Nigeria.
