Safety and welfare take center stage at Dangote Cement drivers' retreat in Ogun
At a recent safety retreat, Dangote Cement drivers discussed critical workplace issues and operational challenges.

Drivers from Dangote Cement gathered for a safety retreat in Ogun State, where they engaged in discussions surrounding road safety, workplace welfare, and various operational challenges. The event, held at the company’s Ibese plant, was part of the 2026 Drivers’ Safety Retreat, aimed at addressing pressing issues affecting the drivers' daily work lives.
The retreat provided a platform for participants to voice their concerns, particularly regarding the rising cost of living, work-related expenses, and delays in receiving drug-test results. These discussions highlighted the need for the company to enhance its support for drivers amidst increasing pressures.
Arvind Pathak, the Group Managing Director of Dangote Cement, emphasized the company's commitment to employee welfare. He stated, "We appreciate the sacrifices you make every day to keep our business moving. That is why we are committed not only to providing you with the tools and training to work safely, but also to listening to your concerns and improving your welfare." This statement underscored the importance of not only operational efficiency but also the well-being of employees.
The theme of the retreat, "Think Safety, Act Safely," focused on the various risks drivers encounter on the road, including speeding, fatigue, and reckless driving. Pathak urged drivers to prioritize their safety over delivery timelines, advising them to rest when tired rather than risk accidents. He remarked, "We can replace a truck; we cannot replace a human being," reinforcing the message that safety should always come first.
The Aboro of Ibeseland, Oba Rotimi Oluseyi Mulero, also addressed the drivers, echoing the need for adequate rest and caution on the roads. He highlighted the importance of returning home safely to their families, a sentiment that resonated deeply with the attendees.
Additionally, Murilo Silva, the Head of Transport at Dangote Cement, warned against reckless driving and proxy driving, which can lead to dangerous situations on the road. The retreat also recognized outstanding performance and commitment to safety, with awards presented to eight drivers, four fleet officers, and one STM recipient for their exemplary contributions.
This retreat not only served as a crucial discussion forum but also reinforced Dangote Cement's dedication to fostering a culture of safety and welfare among its drivers, ensuring that they feel valued and supported in their roles.
