Uganda confirms no active Ebola cases amid Nigerian woman's travel report
Uganda's Ministry of Health reassures the public of no Ebola cases following a Nigerian woman's travel through the country.

Uganda's Ministry of Health has announced that the country currently has no confirmed cases of Ebola, following concerns raised by reports of a Nigerian woman who traveled through Uganda en route to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for business.
In a statement released on October 20, 2026, the ministry emphasized that preliminary investigations revealed the woman passed through Uganda in early October without exhibiting any symptoms of the virus. It was only after her arrival in Nigeria that she began to show symptoms, leading to fears of potential Ebola exposure.
Ugandan health officials clarified that the woman's transit through Uganda does not imply that she contracted the virus within the country. They are actively investigating the situation to determine the source of her exposure. However, they noted that they are still awaiting detailed travel history and medical records from Nigerian authorities, which are crucial for thorough investigations and effective contact tracing.
The ministry stated, "We wish to clarify that, as at the time of this statement, Uganda has NO confirmed active Ebola cases." This declaration aims to alleviate public concerns and misinformation regarding the potential outbreak.
In response to the situation, Ugandan authorities are enhancing health screening and preventive measures at entry points. They are also maintaining limited provisions for humanitarian and diplomatic travel to ensure safety while facilitating essential movements.
The government has urged citizens to remain calm and to practice regular handwashing and sanitization as part of ongoing health precautions. They also encouraged the public to stay informed through verified health updates, emphasizing the importance of following official channels for accurate information.
As investigations continue, the Ministry of Health reassures the public of its commitment to transparency and will provide updates as new information becomes available.
