In a significant effort to enhance the health and well-being of young girls in Nigeria, the Quantus Medical Foundation, a non-profit organization based in the United States, launched an outreach program on Monday aimed at empowering 600 students across Abia and Enugu states. The initiative, spearheaded by Dr. Nnenna Ihekoromadu, a Nigerian-American physician, focuses on providing practical health education, personal hygiene kits, and guidance on confidence and personal safety.

The event took place in Aba, where Dr. Ihekoromadu expressed her commitment to improving healthcare in Nigeria, particularly for girls who are often underserved in health education. She emphasized the importance of understanding their bodies and seeking medical care with confidence.

During the outreach, Dr. Amaka Kamalu, Chief Medical Director of Aba General Hospital, addressed the students, encouraging them to maintain good personal hygiene and conduct themselves with dignity. She stated that true grooming is not defined by wealth or expensive clothing but rather by cleanliness, self-respect, and responsible behavior. Dr. Kamalu also cautioned against the dangers of skin-bleaching creams and negative influences from social media, urging the girls to recognize their worth and capabilities.

In her keynote address, Dr. Uzo Oguine, speaking on behalf of Dr. Ihekoromadu, encouraged the girls to prioritize their health and establish personal boundaries. She highlighted the importance of speaking out about health challenges and abuse, reinforcing the message that they should not suffer in silence. Dr. Oguine also discussed the foundation's collaboration with local hospitals, including Aba General Hospital and Abia State University Teaching Hospital, to ensure that students have access to appropriate healthcare services.

"Good health is essential to pursuing your ambitions, or whatever career you choose," Dr. Oguine stated, emphasizing the role of health in achieving personal goals.

The Team Lead of the foundation's Patient Liaison Officers in Abia State, Egbe Bernard Esang, expressed optimism that the lectures would empower the girls to make informed decisions about their health and share their knowledge within their communities.

As part of the outreach, each student received a health kit containing personal hygiene essentials and a motivational letter titled "Dear Girl" from Dr. Ihekoromadu, aimed at reinforcing their dignity and confidence.

In her closing remarks, Mrs. Chika Ezissi, the Dean of Studies, encouraged the students to disseminate the information they had learned to their peers, ensuring that more girls could benefit from the program. This initiative marks a vital step towards equipping young girls in Nigeria with the knowledge and resources necessary for a healthier future.
